See Blake Shelton and ‘Voice’ Team Sing ‘Lean on Me’
Season nine of The Voice is well underway, with the second week of live shows airing Monday and Tuesday. Setting the typically heated competition aside, if only briefly, Blake Shelton joined his team members Barrett Baber, Emily Ann Roberts and Zach Seabaugh for a performance of the inspirational Bill Withers classic “Lean on Me” during Tuesday night’s show.
Giving the tune a country-gospel spin with fiddle and banjo as accompaniment, Shelton solos on the rather telling line, “I just might have a problem that you’ll understand.” But the country superstar and his team members all appear to be taking the song’s title to heart as they each get a chance to shine on a solo but also work together as a group, adding some sweet harmony to the song’s uplifting finish.
Also featured during the episode was “Just a Cloud Away,” performed by Team Pharrell, whose coach, Pharrell Williams, wrote and recorded the song for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Williams’ team member Mark Hood was eliminated from the competition on Tuesday.
Shelton, like coaches Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani, will have three singers going forward when The Voice returns with live shows next week.
