See a Preview of Tear-Jerking Film About Joey Feek’s Final Years

Created by widower Rory Feek, ‘To Joey, With Love’ is a montage of personal footage documenting the late singer’s cancer battle, the birth of their daughter and the faith that got them through tough times

On June 15th, 2002, country singers Rory Feek and Joey Martin were married in tiny Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, about 30 minutes from the farmhouse where the couple lived, south of Nashville. This year, Rory celebrated the anniversary without his bride by his side. Joey Feek passed away on March 4th of this year, after a long battle with cervical cancer. In an emotional blog post, Feek explained that while he was never good at giving gifts to his wife, he has created a special gift in her memory – a film titled To Joey, With Love, which will be in theaters nationwide on September 20th.

“In the early morning, I carried a thermos and our two favorite mugs across the back field and shared a cup of coffee with my bride as the sun came up over the wooden cross with her name on it,” he writes in the heartfelt post. “I talked and she listened. Or at least, I hoped that somewhere, somehow, she could hear me. And I felt her presence the way I do most days since she’s been gone… in my heart, and in my soul. And I pulled out my iPhone and pushed play, and we watched a movie trailer together as my tears fell.”

The film, which began with hundreds of hours of personal footage shot by Rory, candidly traces Joey’s cancer treatments, the 2014 birth of the couple’s daughter, Indiana, who was born with Down syndrome, and the time leading up to Joey’s passing at age 40.

Rory says the finished work is “a film about our lives during that two-and-a-half years. Our love. Our struggles. And even more so, about our faith in God and our hope in a plan bigger than the one we can see with our own eyes.”

Earlier this year, Feek’s poignant Civil War-themed film, Josephine, was screened at the Nashville Film Festival. More information about To Joey, With Love will be posted at Feek’s blog, This Life I Live, in the coming weeks.
