The Big Barrel Country Music Festival is coming back for a second year, taking over the Woodlands of Dover International Speedway one weekend after the annual Firefly Festival. The summertime event kicks off June 24th, 2016, in Dover, Delaware.
Brad Paisley, Eric Church and Sam Hunt are the top-billed headliners for the three-day festival. Rather than focusing solely on the heavy-hitters of mainstream country, though, Big Barrel is casting a wider net, roping everyone from reigning Americana king Jason Isbell to roots legend Marty Stuart into its lineup. Also tossed into the mix are Hank Williams Jr., Martina McBride, Ashley Monroe, Emmylou Harris, Dwight Yoakam, Eli Young Band, the Band Perry, Travis Tritt, Robert Earl Keen, Brothers Osborne and Lee Brice. True Detective soundtrack star Lera Lynn, Red Dirt favorites the Turnpike Troubadours, Canadian crooner Lindi Ortega and fresh-faced old soul Parker Milsap are among the handful of under-the-radar names dotting the schedule.
Hunt’s headliner status marks a big jump for the Montevallo star, who spent much of 2015 opening for Lady Antebellum and Hunter Hayes on Lady A’s Wheels Up Tour. He’s also a front-runner in the New Artist of the Year race at the 49th CMA Awards, November 4th. Meanwhile, Paisley and Church are both wrapping up promotional cycles for their most recent albums, with the upcoming Big Barrel Country Music Festival likely arriving during the middle of their preparation for newer albums. This weekend, Church drove the pace car at the CampingWorld.com 500 at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama, driving a pink Chevy in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
