Rosanne Cash Tops Most-Played Americana Albums of 2014
The Americana Music Association has unveiled its list of the 10 most-played albums for 2014, with singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash’s The River and the Thread garnering more spins than any other throughout the year. The album, which earned a spot on Rolling Stone Country’s 26 Albums of 2014 You Probably Didn’t But Really Should Hear, logged an impressive 10 weeks atop the Americana Airplay chart.
The long-awaited return of modern bluegrass trio Nickel Creek earned the Number Two spot on the year-end survey. A Dotted Line was the group’s first new album since 2005. Coincidentally, the third most-played album of the year, Tarpaper Sky, belongs to Cash’s ex-husband, Rodney Crowell.
The Americana Airplay chart tallies the reported play of 70 terrestrial radio stations, along with nationally syndicated radio shows, satellite radio and internet stations to compile weekly spin counts.
The Americana Music Association trade organization advocates for American roots music throughout the world, producing annual events such as the Americana Music Festival & Conference and the Americana Honors & Awards program.
