Ram Report: Randy Houser, Rita Wilson Release Fiery New LPs

Today’s new releases include a country chart-topper and an actress-songwriter

“We’ve waited a long time to get this new music out, because we wanted to get it right,” Randy Houser says of his first new album in more than three years, Fired Up. “I put my heart and soul into my music and every album is a reflection of where I am in my life, which hopefully other people can relate to. I’m so thankful to be in a really great place right now with this album.”

And a great place on the charts. The LP’s first radio release, the anthemic “We Went” marks the Mississippi native’s fourth Number One single. It’s followed by the fun-loving “Song Number 7,” which made its live debut today on Good Morning America.

Rita Wilson is following her covers album, AM/FM, with a self-titled project of originals, out today. The actress, whose roles range from the supportive best friend in Sleepless in Seattle to a sexually-charged “cougar” in HBO’s Girls, brings more of her real life to her music, co-writing every track on the project. Her co-writers include Kara DioGuardi, Jason Reeves and Kristian Bush, with whom she wrote “Every Day” as a gift to husband Tom Hanks.

“Kristian gave me an assignment,” Wilson recalls to Rolling Stone Country. “He goes, ‘Write down everything that you love about Tom. So I just did the stream-of-consciousness thing. And you pick out the things that really work. That really is a song for my beautiful, wonderful husband.”

Wilson is also celebrating the theatrical release of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which she co-produced with Hanks and Gary Goetzman.
