After releasing two albums with the Pistol Annies, Angaleena Presley is firing her own shots with an upcoming solo record, due out this fall on Slate Creek Records. It’ll be the full-length solo debut from Presley, a coal miner’s daughter who moved to Nashville in 2000 and spent a decade in the trenches of Music Row, writing songs for other artists. At Miranda Lambert and Ashley Monroe’s request, she joined the Pistol Annies in 2010, eventually co-writing both the group’s albums — including the gold-selling Hell on Heels – with her bandmates.

This time around, she’s taking an even bigger role. “I’ve poured my heart and soul into this record, from writing to producing and recording,” she says of the still-untitled solo album, “and Slate Creek gave me the space to express my creativity on every level. I couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to share what we’ve done.”

Presley’s not the only one who’s excited. Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls, who’ll take Presley out on the road this fall, is also a fan. “Her music is deep from her bluegrass roots,” Saliers enthuses. “Her lyrics are drum tight. Her voice delivers powerful stories effortlessly. I’m blown away.”
