Morgan Wallen Surprise Releases New Song ‘This Bar’
Morgan Wallen is saying farewell to 2019 with the surprise release of his coming-of-age song “This Bar.”
‘Wrote this song with my buddies about some moments and times in my life that have made me who I am today,” said Wallen on Twitter. “Some good, some bad, but all of em I can look back on and grin a little.”
Wrote this song with my buddies about some moments and times in my life that have made me who I am today. Some good, some bad, but all of em I can look back on and grin a little. Hope it makes you do the same. Be safe in whatever Bar you find yourself in tonight. Happy New Years. pic.twitter.com/jyHtHRlTjW

The “Whiskey Glasses” singer has occasionally dropped the tune into his live sets, but a studio recording was not included on his 2018 debut album, If I Know Me. Lyrically it hinges on the phrase, “I found myself in this bar” — at first, it’s just a happenstance thing, but he learns a couple hard lessons along the way and suddenly it’s more about his own self-discovery and maturity. The musical accompaniment is appropriately anthemic, building from an acoustic, atmospheric start to a big, sweeping finish of cascading drums and Wallen’s impassioned vocals.
It’s been a big year for the East Tennessee native, who enjoyed a sizable hit with “Whiskey Glasses” and released the follow-up single “Chasin’ You.” Wallen also released a cover of Jason Isbell’s powerful “Cover Me Up” that has become a staple of his live shows as well as a hot topic of debate on Twitter.
On January 2nd, Wallen will launch his headlining Whiskey Glasses Roadshow Tour, which currently has dates scheduled through April.
