Meghan Linsey Flips the Genre Switch on ‘Believer’ EP

Meghan Linsey, who first captured country fans’ attention as one-half of the duo Steel Magnolia and has since gone on to a solo career that reflects more of her New Orleans roots, will release her pop-soul EP, Believer, on Friday, July 31st.
The Season Eight runner-up of NBC’s The Voice will make the EP available for early release at a reduced price exclusively on GhostTunes starting Monday, July 27th, before it hits iTunes and other digital retailers. Produced by Tyler Cain (Ashley Monroe, James Otto) and recorded in Nashville, the six tracks on Believer represent a project Linsey says was “about finding my voice as a solo artist.”
In 2009, Linsey and her Steel Magnolia partner, Joshua Scott Jones, won the second season of the CMT series, Can You Duet, after which they released a self-titled debut LP on the Big Machine label. Romantically involved as well, the duo called it quits personally and professionally, with Jones entering rehab for drug addiction. He later released a solo project, while Linsey released a few independent singles, including the boundary-pushing.”Try Harder.” She then went on to compete on The Voice, which gave her a chance to showcase her soulful vocals and a range well beyond country music.
“I grew up singing soul music, and then I moved to Nashville,” Linsey tells Rolling Stone Country. “I just always tried to put a soulful spin on what I was doing with Steel Magnolia, and then with my own stuff. And so I feel like that’s really been who I am. It’s just really come out on the show.”
