Martina McBride’s soul cred keeps building. The country singer, whose latest chart-topper is the soul/R&B covers album, Everlasting, is now finding herself sharing a bill with the Empress of Soul.
McBride and the legendary Gladys Knight will perform alongside pop/R&B chanteuse Estelle on the inaugural Skyville Live webcast, which will air live from Nashville on January 14th. The three powerhouse singers are the first guests on what producers promise to be a “network-quality program” to air once a month from Music City. Each episode will pair two iconic artists with one emerging artist, in an intimate performance before a live studio audience of about 100 and a limitless web audience.
McBride, Knight and Estelle will each sing some of their own biggest hits, harmonizing with one another on select tunes. They’ll also be taking audience questions, which viewers can tweet to them using the hashtag #SkyvilleLive.
Though next week’s webcast will be the first time Skyville Live goes public, the series has been around for years. It started as small local show put on by Music Row moguls Wally Wilson and Paul Worley — the owners of Skyville artist development and publishing company — to showcase their new artists. The series has become so popular over the years that it has outgrown the local watering hole serving as its venue, so they’ve now moved it to the Skyville studios… complete with a three-camera webcasting system.
Other artists tentatively scheduled for subsequent Skyville Live episodes include Kenny Chesney, Merle Haggard, Meghan Trainor, Kris Kristofferson, Trey Songz and Lady Antebellum. Catch the first Skyville Live broadcast on January 14th at 8p.m. ET on www.skyvillelive.com.
