Just in time for spring, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real will release their third album Something Real on March 11th. Anchored by the groove-laden title track, Something Real offers more of what POTR calls “cowboy hippie surf rock.”
The band, featuring brothers Lukas and Micah Nelson (sons of Willie), Corey McCormick, Tato Melgar and Anthony LoGerfo, recorded Something Real in 2014 at San Francisco’s William Westerfeld Mansion — a one-time home to Janis Joplin. The video for “Something Real” includes band jamming scenes that were filmed at Westerfeld. (Watch the clip below.)
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Neil Young adds his vocals to the Something Real track “San Francisco,” continuing a relationship that began with POTR playing on Young’s 2015 album The Monsanto Years. Following that release, POTR also served as Young’s backing band for the Rebel Content Tour.
POTR initially played their first live shows in 2008 and opened nine dates for Willie Nelson in 2009. The band’s self-titled first album was issued in 2012, followed by Wasted in 2012.
