Loretta Lynn to Be Focus of PBS ‘American Masters’

‘Still a Mountain Girl’ recalls the life and career of the Coal Miner’s Daughter

Loretta Lynn will be the focus of PBS's 'American Masters' in March.

On the same day American music icon Loretta Lynn releases Full Circle, her first new album in a decade, the Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, native will be the subject of a PBS documentary: American Masters — Loretta Lynn: Still a Mountain Girl.

Premiering Friday, March 4th, at 9 p.m. ET on PBS, the in-depth film includes interviews from family members as well as longtime fans and friends like Jack White, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Reba McEntire, Miranda Lambert, Sissy Spacek, Bill Anderson and Full Circle co-producer John Carter Cash. Never-before-seen home movies, performances and photos from throughout the life and career of the First Lady of Country Music will be featured in the film, which debuts during Women’s History Month as part of the 30th anniversary season of the Emmy-winning American Masters series.

“Being part of the American Masters series makes you feel like, ‘Hey, I really have accomplished something great,'” Lynn said in a statement announcing the special.

Full Circle, which was co-produced by the singer-songwriter’s daughter, Patsy Lynn Russell, marks Lynn’s first all-new LP since 2004’s Grammy-winning Van Lear Rose, produced by Jack White. It’s the first of a multi-album deal signed with Legacy Recordings, Sony Music’s branch of catalog recordings. Lynn has reportedly cut more than 90 songs for the upcoming releases.
