LoCash on Touring: ‘Everything Changes With a Hit Song’

It’s taken nearly eight months, but duo LoCash currently have a second top 10 on their hands with “I Know Somebody,” following their irrepressible 2015 hit “I Love This Life.” Now the pair – who have made a living on the road for more than a decade – will headline Live Nation’s Ones to Watch tour this fall, which will include special guests Michael Tyler and Ryan Follese on select dates. The trek kicks off November 17th in Louisville, Kentucky and runs through March 2017.
Some things have inevitably changed for members Preston Brust and Chris Lucas with the success of “I Love This Life,” a Number Two hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. For starters, they’re starting to witness sunsets from the stage and fans actually recognize deeper selections from their 2016 album The Fighters.
“Everything changes with a hit song,” says Brust. “The slot that you get from festivals gets a little bit later towards the evening and the lights start to come on during your show.”
“I didn’t know there were nighttime shows!” jokes Lucas.
“Actually, we had a spotlight hit us the other night, like, ‘Wow we’re starting to get towards nighttime,'” adds Brust. “The merchandise numbers go up. People want to buy t shirts and CDs and albums. It’s so cool to have this happening and feel like all those years of persevering paid off.”
With this elevated radio visibility comes the opportunity to realize one of their long-time dreams: beefing up their stage production in a way that matches their outsize personas and performance style.
“I’m excited about adding some lights and staging to our show,” says Brust. “For some guys that started with a U-haul behind my Jeep Cherokee, that’s a big step for us. It’s fun to see it all get bigger.”
It remains to be seen what will become of “I Know Somebody” at this point, since the climb through the top 10 is often a long and arduous one for less-established artists. If nothing else, LoCash are happy and grateful to have experienced it at least once.
“We’re just trying to sit back and enjoy it again, because you never know when the ride is going to end or keep going,” says Brust. “You just try to enjoy it and keep climbing.”
