Little Big Town Soak Up Sun and Suds in New Video

Watch the country quartet’s festive new clip for ‘Day Drinking’

When Little Big Town wrote the new single, “Day Drinking,” it was truly art imitating life. The trio reports they had a little liquid courage in the songwriting session that day, as it seems they also did in the brand-new video for the song. (Watch above.)

Shot in Miami Beach, the “Day Drinking” video starts out with a staged traffic jam near the American Airlines Arena, where the Miami Heat had a playoff game that evening. So, reports, the film crew had to shoot quickly in order to avoid a real traffic jam. After they finally get their coolers moving, the video progresses to a bikini-filled beach, where the tanned and toned bandmates refuse to “wait ’til the sun’s sinking” to pour a cold one.

“Day Drinking” is the first single from the Grammy-winning country group’s upcoming sixth studio album, Painkiller.  LBT’s Karen Fairchild tells Rolling Stone Country the new project is bolder and more provocative than anything else in their catalog, while still maintaining, “It’s not a departure, it’s the next step.”

Like “Day Drinking,” Painkiller‘s title track is similarly intoxicating, just without the calories (or even a prescription). “That song is kind of tongue-in-cheek — ‘be the person that numbs my pain,'” Fairchild explains. “We started talking about tying that thread through the whole record, to ease your pain. Don’t we want the whole record to do that for people, anyway? Whether it’s a sad moment, or a song that’s more thoughtful and has a lot more substance in the lyric, we want music to take us away. Painkiller is the common thread through all the songs.”
