Country music traditionalists will have a lot to celebrate this September. Lee Ann Womack, whose pure, throwback sound has led to countless accolades, has announced a September 23rd release date for her new album, The Way I’m Livin’. It will be the Texas native’s first album in almost seven years and her first project for Sugar Hill Records, after leaving longtime label home, MCA.

Womack made her live debut of the title track at Keith Urban’s All 4 the Hall benefit concert last month. The song, written by Adam Wright, feels like something Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings would have crafted back in the Seventies.

“The way that I’m livin’, if I ever get to heaven, it’s a doggone shame,” she sings in the chorus.

“I wanted songs that talked about how life really is: the raw spots, the tough places, the meltdowns and messy parts. Hard, sad, rough – all the stuff people pretend doesn’t exist,” says Womack.

Famed songwriters accompanying Wright on the album credits include Hayes Carll, Chris Knight, Buddy Miller, Roger Miller, Bruce Robison, Mando Saenz, Mindy Smith and Neil Young. Womack explains that every track was written to be performed – not pitched.

“Every songwriter wrote intending to sing them, to tell these stories, show these postcards, and you can feel the way they built the characters!” Womack reports. “Bringing that to music was just so incredible for everyone on the sessions.”
