It was on the 2011 CMA Awards red carpet that Laura Bell Bundy was gushing about a new album she had almost finished, the follow-up to her stellar country debut, 2010’s Achin’ and Shakin’. Now, three and a half years later, the new music is finally seeing the light of day.
Another Piece of Me will hit shelves on June 9th, featuring 15 tracks that the Kentucky native promises run a gamut of emotions. On one end of that spectrum is the dance-ready “Two Step,” about a girls’ night out. Bundy, a Tony-nominated Broadway actress (Legally Blonde, Wicked), released a video for that song back in 2013, solidifying her status as one of the only female country singers in the genre’s history who incorporates choreography in her repertoire.
On the other end of the emotional compass are “China and Wine” and the soaring title track, both of which were inspired by hard times in the singer-songwriter’s life. “I hope everyone truly feels like they know another piece of me after listening,” Bundy says of the project. ”Much of my career has involved playing characters that have been created for me, but this album is something completely different and the most personal body of work I’ve ever done. . . it is the real me.”
There’s no word on a reason for the new music’s delay, but Bundy has been busy jetting back and forth between Nashville and Los Angeles, juggling her singing and acting careers. She most recently starred opposite Charlie Sheen in FX’s Anger Management, preceded by roles on How I Met Your Mother and Hart of Dixie.
Collaborators on Bundy’s Another Piece of Me include Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus, Tyler Cain (Meghan Linsey, Ashley Monroe) and Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift, the Band Perry). The album is available for pre-order starting on May 26th, with two full tracks available for download then, along with a music video for “I Am What I Am.”
