“I don’t get bored easily, because my wheels are always turning,” Kix Brooks tells Rolling Stone Country. “It doesn’t mean I always have great ideas, but I’m always jumping to the next thing as fast as I can.”
That explains the country legend’s résumé. In addition to being one half of the most awarded duo in country music history, Brooks and Dunn, he also owns a winery just south of Nashville called Arrington Vineyards. The Louisiana native hosts a show on the Cooking Channel called Steak Out With Kix Brooks, and last week he released his own cookbook, Cookin’ It With Kix: The Art of Celebrating and the Fun of Outdoor Cooking.
The singer-songwriter is also adding to his film credits this year. He’s the executive producer of a movie called You’re Gonna Miss Me, with an all-star cast led by John Schneider (a.k.a. Bo Duke from The Dukes of Hazzard and Eighties country star).
“John is a famous country music singer,” Brooks explains of the plot line. “He dies pretty early in the movie and his kids all hate each other. They go to a viewing of the video about their inheritance and he tells them, ‘You can have the money but you have to follow this scavenger hunt.’ So it’s about trying to get the money and get along with each other doing it. And meeting relatives they’ve never met who are kinda bat shit crazy.”
One of those crazy relatives is Uncle Elmer, played by Brooks, who’s also the co-owner of the movie’s production company, Team Two Entertainment. You’re Gonna Miss Me also stars Morgan Fairchild, Eric Roberts and William Shockley.
