Brooklyn, Michigan is the spot for three days of country music and camping, as the Faster Horses Festival gallops to town July 18-20. This year’s lineup is seemingly plucked straight from the CMA Awards red carpet, as it includes huge stars such as Kip Moore, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town, Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, Miranda Lambert, Cassadee Pope, Ashley Monroe, Brett Eldredge and dozens more.
Three-day pass holders can go straight from their sleeping bags to the mosh pit, as several campsites surround the festival grounds. “Dirt Road” singer Kip Moore plays DJ for those die-hard fans with this campfire playlist of hand-picked songs, along with personal commentary about each track below.
“The Tracks of My Tears,” Smokey Robinson
I think this song is great for any gathering of friends, camping or whatever. No matter what, it always makes you wanna sing along.
“Tupelo Honey,” Van Morrison
This track really triggers the awareness of your surroundings and makes you appreciate the company you keep, which is what festivals are all about.
“Forget About Us,” Tim McGraw
I’m having such a great time being out on the road with Tim this summer. He has so many great songs, but I chose this one because I like dark music, especially when I’m looking at a fire.
“Learning to Fly,” Tom Petty
Petty and this song always makes me wanna pull out my guitar and play along, and I can picture a lot of people doing the same at their campsites.
“Stand By Me,” Ben E. King
Some people might have seen me sing this song during my show, I play it because it is one of those feel-good tracks that just makes you love everybody.
“Backstreets,” Bruce Springsteen
Bruce always takes you on a journey in the quiet moments.
“Buckets of Rain,” Bob Dylan
With this song, Dylan makes me appreciate what I do for a living. There is nothing like hearing a well-crafted song.
“Bring It on Home to Me,” Sam Cooke
Cooke knows how to ignite the soul every time, especially on this track.

“Simple Man,” Lynyrd Skynyrd
You’re with Mother Nature when you camp and if you do it the right way you leave all the bullshit behind. This song is about living simple and pure…
“Red Headed Stranger,” Willie Nelson
I couldn’t choose just one song from this record by Willie Nelson, so I would probably put the whole record on my playlist. I’ll probably never smoke with Willie, but I might do it listening to him.
