Kacey Musgraves Hints at Holiday Album Plans

Kacey Musgraves’ next album project will be a departure from her previous two releases, as representatives confirmed to Rolling Stone Country that she is working on a collection of holiday music.
Musgraves broke the news on June 1st, posting a photo of herself on Instagram in a green shirt and red ribbon while surrounded by cascading Christmas lights. “It might be June but we’re gettin’ festive!” she wrote, decorating her text with evergreen tree emojis. “Be expecting a very special Christmas record for all you little elves comin’ out just in time to stuff your stockings! Put it on your lists! Thats all for now!” There are no details yet about what songs will be included on the project.
Musgraves’ Pageant Material appeared last summer, expanding her musical palette with lush bits of countrypolitan-style orchestration and some ace whistling. By the time that one was available for purchase, she’d already begun thinking about what she wanted to do with her next release. “The next one will be completely different,” she told Rolling Stone, “because I don’t think this one is very far off from [Same Trailer Different Park]. “I would really like to write to a concept next time. I’d really like to do a reggae record, or a surf-rock record.” Whether those influences show up on Musgraves’ holiday record remains to be seen.
Following the release of Pageant Material, Musgraves also stepped out as a headliner on her Country & Western Rhinestone Revue Tour, which ran into 2016. She’s currently making the rounds on the summer festival circuit but will take the opening slot for George Strait at the Las Vegas Arena on September 9th and 10th as well as anchor a two-night stand at San Francisco’s Fillmore on September 16th and 17th.
