Kacey Musgraves has been making waves in country music for a while thanks to her throwback style and irreverent, unapologetic songwriting. Recently, she made waves of a different sort when she teamed up with R&B star Miguel to remix and re-record his song “Waves” — which originally appeared on his Wildheart album — for the Rogue Waves EP that was released February 26th.
With tinkling percussion, sighing steel and rumbling guitar, Musgraves’ interpretation of “Waves” perfectly captures the metaphor — featuring the phrase “body surf on me” — of sexual ecstasy. Musgraves and Miguel answer one another in blissful, reverb-heavy passages that only heighten the heat between them.
Musgraves’ pal and fellow Texan Maren Morris is perfectly fine with all that, tweeting, “I’m friends with @KaceyMusgraves and I’m really turned on by “Waves” with @Miguel. #sorrynotsorry #bodysurfonme.”
Currently Musgraves is playing dates on her headlining Country & Western Rhinestone Revue and in April she will play a supporting role by opening for George Strait at the new Las Vegas Arena.
