Kacey Musgraves, All Out of Weed, Sings ‘Lonely Weekend’ on 4/20
Oh, the humanity. On 4/20, Kacey Musgraves found herself without a single joint to spark up. “We’re completely out of weed. Not even a crumb, not a shred, no dust, not even like a CDB joint — so, that’s fun,” she lamented during a nonetheless satisfying appearance on Willie Nelson’s “Come and Toke It” 4/20 livestream. Dressed appropriately in green satin pajamas, Musgraves sang two songs off her Grammy-winning Golden Hour, “Lonely Weekend” and “Slow Burn.”
Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, the performances highlighted Musgraves’ talents as a vocalist — these were pretty, pristine renditions, stripped of Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk’s glorious Golden Hour production. But the 10-minute video also succeeded in showing off Musgraves’ goofy charisma, a WTF charm that’s been undiminished (or perhaps bolstered) by quarantine.
“Hang in there everybody. I mean, shit. Nobody knows what to do during times like these. All you can do is your best and know that that’s good enough,” she said to the camera. “Some days I feel really productive and I do things around the house and I have fun, and some days I’m a fucking mess and I’m a total bitch…and I don’t exercise and I eat crazy. It’s all normal…. Don’t feel alone.” In pandemic times, we’re all Kacey Musgraves.
Earlier this week, the country singer made another livestream appearance, performing “Rainbow” on the One World: Together at Home special.
