ABC’s Nashville won’t return to the airwaves until mid-September, but that hasn’t stopped actor/singer Jonathan Jackson (who plays the TV show’s bad-boy-turned-semi-hero, Avery Barkley) from pushing his own music during the off-season.

Sex, Drugs & Country: Behind the Scenes of ‘Nashville’

While ABC’s screenwriting team spends its summer hammering out a way to top the show’s drama-filled second season — whose final two episodes featured a pair of marriage proposals, a homosexuality admission from country-pop’s newest beefcake and a cameo by First Lady Michelle Obama — Jackson will put the final touches on Radio Cinematic, his fourth album with the alt-rock band Jonathan Jackson + Enation. A 30-second clip of “Everything is Possible,” the record’s first single, is streaming on the band’s website today.

“Jonathan Jackson’s range is wild,” co-star Clare Bowen told Rolling Stone Country during a recent visit to the Nashville set. “I had a chance to hear him sing at the Opry, and he sang this beautiful old gospel ballad and finished the song on his knees. He has a gorgeous voice.”

Filled with electric guitars, chest-beating vocals and swirling synths, Radio Cinematic doesn’t contain much gospel… but it does worship at the arena-pop altar of U2, whose songs Jackson sang during his initial audition for Nashville. Greg Archilla, who kickstarted his career as a mixer for Collective Soul and Matchbox Twenty, produced the album, while Jackson’s older brother played drums.

Radio Cinematic is currently scheduled for an October 14th release, hitting stores one month after Nashville‘s third-season premiere.
