Jeb Bush Likes Country Music, Cites ‘Florida Georgia Band’

News alert: Jeb Bush is country, y’all. As part of his eternal quest to become a person who is actually likeable, Bush claimed last night during Part Two of CNN’s Republican Town Hall to not only like country music, but to listen to “the Florida Georgia Band.” Somehow, the presidential hopeful found a way to make his purported admiration for country’s most polarizing duo (Florida Georgia Line) even worse. However, he also cited Zac Brown, correctly locating the “Homegrown” singer’s name.

Bush’s brother George W. Bush is also apparently a fan of country music and doing other “down home” things, such as listening to George Jones while biking around his million-dollar Texas ranch. It is unlikely that either Bush brother will ever like the Dixie Chicks, though Donald Trump probably admires their Bush bashing. To be fair, Dubya did have a pretty diverse grasp on all sides of the genre and veered heavily into heartland rock, with a penchant for John Hiatt, John Fogerty and even Van Morrison.

Host Anderson Cooper asked many of the Republican candidates during the two-night event about their musical favorites, and the responses ranged from “classical” (Dr. Ben Carson, logically liking most people’s nap soundtrack) to impossible to dislike (Trump mentioned the Beatles and Michael Jackson) to completely perplexing (token nice guy John Kasich’s admiration for Linkin Park).

Neither Florida Georgia Line nor Zac Brown have openly endorsed a candidate in either political party, though Brown did support former Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. FGL is about to hit the road on their Dig Your Roots Tour, while Zac Brown Band will play a slew of festival dates beginning in March.
