Jason Aldean’s current single “Burnin’ It Down” may still be making waves on the charts, but he chose a different song to help introduce his new album, Old Boots, New Dirt, to fans last night during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The Georgia country-rocker performed “Just Gettin’ Started,” the lead-off track from his sixth studio LP. A more rock-oriented song than the R&B-influenced “Burnin’ It Down,” “Just Gettin’ Started” nonetheless features some of the hip-hop sounds that Aldean has come to incorporate into his music. At times, the tempo of the song, written by Chris DeStefano, Rhett Akins and Ashley Gorley, echoes Aldean’s mega-hit “Dirt Road Anthem.”
While the artist, who recently headlined the inaugural Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, is still deciding what song from Old Boots will follow “Burnin’ It Down” as a single, he says anything on the new album is fair game.
“When I cut songs on an album, I don’t cut it and think, ‘This will never be a single, or I’m just putting it on there cause we need a tempo [track],'” Aldean tells Rolling Stone Country. “When I cut songs, it’s because I really like the song and it can potentially be a hit. That’s why I’m drawn to them.”
