Hear Wheeler Walker Jr. Call Out Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan in ‘Poon’

Song appears on the trash-talking country character’s new album ‘Ol’ Wheeler,’ out June 2nd

Talk about a blue yodel. Wheeler Walker Jr. pulls no punches on his bawdy new song “Poon,” name-checking Nashville stars from Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan to Sam Hunt and Kelsea Ballerini. The track – which, yes, features Walker trying out a high-lonesome yodel – appears on his forthcoming album Ol’ Wheeler, due June 2nd.

Walker tells Rolling Stone Country that the song was born partly out of frustration.

“I wanted a ‘fuck you song,’ but I didn’t want to say ‘fuck you.’ Because some of these guys are probably good guys,” he says. “Buy my point was I don’t give a fuck about Luke Bryan, I want the fucking poon. Fuck the agent, fuck the manager, fuck them all – I’m here for the poon.”

But a little bit of FGL level success wouldn’t be a bad thing either, he admits.

“When I’m making fun of Florida Georgia Line, it’s really not about them,” says Walker. “People will say, ‘You’re just making fun because you’re jealous.’ Exactly. They’re selling out arenas and my music is way fucking better, and I’m playing some fucking dump.”

Walker hits the road this Friday for a string of sold-out shows in Nashville, New York City and Los Angeles with openers Republican Hair, the band led by songwriter Luke Dick. Walker launches a full-scale tour in July in Atlanta.

Ol’ Wheeler is the follow-up to Redneck Shit, Walker’s 2016 debut that featured songs like “Better Off Beatin’ Off” and “Drop Em Out.” Both albums were produced by Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson knob-turner Dave Cobb. (Walker is the alter-ego of comedian Ben Hoffman.)
