For performers like Wayne “the Train” Hancock, the road is life. The Texas-based singer-songwriter has carved out a living in music through years of relentless touring, taking his throwback brand of country music on tour for more than 200 days per year. Hancock’s latest album Slingin’ Rhythm is due October 28th via Bloodshot Records and its title track is premiering below.

Nodding to Bob Wills with its bouncy Western swing tempo, “Slingin’ Rhythm” lets Hancock spell out the inherent joys and struggles of those who feel called to perform. “I sing 15 hours a week just to pay my bills and rent. By the time I’m headed back home, most of it’s spent,” he sings. Even so, he concludes that he’ll never retire from the road. He provides a big, open canvas for instrumental solos, where jazzy electric guitar runs switch off with bright bursts of steel guitar. Hancock worked with his longtime producer Lloyd Maines on the collection, his sixth for Bloodshot.

True to his word, Hancock will be on the go during fall 2016. He’s currently finishing up a run of California dates before he heads up the East Coast with November shows in New York and Philadelphia, among others. In between, he’ll touch home base with dates in Texas, including an October 15th gig at legendary Flores Country Store in Helotes.
