Hear Tom Hiddleston’s ‘Move It On Over’ From ‘I Saw the Light’
For his role as Hank Williams in the upcoming biopic I Saw the Light, actor Tom Hiddleston worked with singer-songwriter and Williams acolyte Rodney Crowell to master the country legend’s singing style. Ahead of the April 1st release of the film, Hiddleston’s vocals are on display on the movie’s official soundtrack. Released this Friday, March 25th, the album includes Hiddleton’s versions of such Hank classics as “Hey Good Lookin’,” “Jambalaya” and “Move It On Over,” premiering today.
“I had listened to ‘Love Sick Blues’ and to ‘Long Gone Lonesome Blues,’ and I didn’t know how to make my vocal cords vibrate to make that specific sound,” Hiddleston told Rolling Stone Country in October, describing his preparation for the role. “I thought it was an accident of genetics.”
Although Hiddleston cites “Long Gone Lonesome Blues” as his favorite Hank Williams song (“When I listened to it as a fan it seemed so impossible,” he says of the original performance), he throws himself into “Move It On Over” here, making it a touch more comic than Williams’ sad tale of being relegated to the doghouse.
