Hear Thomas Rhett’s Dashing ‘Star of the Show’
Thomas Rhett’s latest song mixes slick vocals, bold rhythm and background vocals reminiscent of Color Me Badd’s “I Wanna Sex You Up.” (No joke; just skip to the 2:40 mark.) The playful and sexy tune is dedicated to the singer’s wife, Lauren, and was co-written by Rhett and his father, country hitmaker Rhett Akins, along with Ben Hayslip, just after Rhett and his bride said “I do.”
“Walkin’ down the street, hand in mine/It don’t keep them other guys/And their wandering eyes from lookin’ at you/But it’s all right, and that’s OK/Who could blame ’em anyway/You’re so pretty and you ain’t even got a clue,” he sings of his bashfully beautiful wife in the bouncy, stripped-down lead verse that leads into a more booming chorus.
“Star of the Show” is featured on the deluxe version of Rhett’s platinum-selling Tangled Up album, set for release October 28th.
A double CMA nominee this year — Single and Song of the Year for “Die a Happy Man” — Rhett is now plotting his first-ever headlining tour. The Home Team tour kicks off in February 2017, with Kelsea Ballerini, Ryan Hurd and Russell Dickerson also along for the ride.
