Hear the Travelin’ McCourys’ Fiery Cover of Passenger’s ‘Let Her Go’

The Travelin’ McCourys have never been a band that limit themselves to one genre. Their new cover of Passenger’s hit pop song “Let Her Go,” released today, is the latest example of the bluegrass band finding inspiration beyond the banjo. Hear it below.

The song opens with mandolin player Ronnie McCoury nodding to the original track’s distinctive acoustic guitar melody. Soon after, the rest of the band comes in with their trademark vocal harmonies on the verse, eventually giving way to some barn-burning solos during the song’s bridge.

The band recorded the song at Nashville studio the Butcher Shoppe, with Ronnie taking over on production duties. He attributes their decision to cover the song to his teenage daughter, who introduced him to it.

Passenger achieved massive success with “Let Her Go,” peaking at Number Five on Billboard‘s Hot 100 in the United States and selling more than five million digital copies worldwide. It was a single from the British singer-songwriter’s album All the Little Lights.

Ronnie and his brother and fellow bandmate Rob McCoury are the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury. The Travelin’ McCourys are currently on tour through September both as a standalone act and as part of the Del McCoury Band.
