Hear Sugarland’s Rousing New Song ‘Still the Same’

Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush reunite their duo for first release since 2011

In 2011, Sugarland released “Tonight,” their final single before going on indefinite hiatus. Since then, both Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush have pursued solo projects, with Nettles releasing That Girl in 2014 and Playing With Fire in 2016, and Bush issued Southern Gravity in 2015. Nettles has also done some acting, both on Broadway and television, while Bush served as producer on Lindsay Ell’s The Project. At the close of 2017, Nettles and Bush have reformed their multi-platinum duo and released the new song “Still the Same.”

It’s a typically uplifting mix of country and rock in the U2 mold, with ringing electric guitars and Nettles’ soaring vocals. In the chorus, Nettles asks, “Can we try to leave it better than how it came? Don’t be afraid to change, our love is still the same” – lines that could certainly represent their lengthy split from one another but could also serve as a rallying cry for anyone living through turbulent times.

Sugarland’s new song is part of a joint agreement with Big Machine Records and their longtime label home UMG Nashville, with more music in the works. They’re currently scheduled to perform as part of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2018 as well as Europe’s C2C: Country 2 Country Festival in March.
