Hear Nashville Super Bowl Singer Marc Scibilia’s Debut Single
While Twitter may have been buzzing — for all the wrong reasons — about Nationwide’s “dead kid” Super Bowl ad, another commercial turned heads for its ethereal rendition of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land.” Jeep’s “Beautiful Lands” campaign featured the haunting voice of Nashville artist Marc Scibilia.
The singer, originally from Buffalo, New York, recently recorded his debut album with Butch Walker, who has produced Keith Urban, Taylor Swift and Fall Out Boy (and who releases his own new album, Afraid of Ghosts, tomorrow).
“He is a really good singer-songwriter,” Walker tells Rolling Stone Country of Scibilia. “That record is scary good. I’m really excited for people to hear it.”
The first single from the album, set for release on Capitol/I.R.S., is titled “Wide Open Arms” and features a propulsive handclap beat and an especially soulful delivery from Scibilia. Watch the lyric video for the song above, which the singer posted following his Super Bowl debut.
In last night’s Jeep ad, Scibilia sang Guthrie’s often misinterpreted folk classic over scenes of U.S. landmarks and, eventually, locations around the world.
