Hear Miranda Lambert’s Road-Worthy New Song ‘Highway Vagabond’
Though Miranda Lambert’s long winning streak as CMA Female Vocalist of the Year was finally snapped on Wednesday, November 2nd, she appears to have her sights trained on dominating 2017. The singer, who performed “Vice” on the CMA Awards stage recently released audio for “Highway Vagabond,” a new song from her forthcoming double album The Weight of These Wings.
Like “Vice” before it, “Highway Vagabond” speaks to a restless existence and offers up some reasonably productive ways of dealing with it. “I wanna go somewhere nobody knows. I wanna know somewhere nobody goes,” sings Lambert in the opening line, her lonesome melody carving a line through a pulsing bass progression, reverb-heavy guitar stabs and a surprisingly funky drum groove. The solution? Hit the road and never stay too long in one spot, staying one step ahead of the bad times. Written by Shane McAnally, Luke Dick and Natalie Hemby, the track appears on The Weight of These Wings‘ first half, titled The Nerve.
“Highway Vagabond” also inspired the name of Lambert’s 2017 tour, which launches January 26th in Evansville, Indiana. The Weight of These Wings will be available on November 18th.
