Hear Michaela Anne Channel Emmylou Harris in New ‘Worrying Mind’

With a country-rock sound in line with classic Seventies albums by Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles, the new album by singer-songwriter Michaela Anne, Bright Lights and the Fame, will be released May 13th. Ahead of its debut, the former Brooklyn resident has released the album track “Worrying Mind,” a song that calls to mind the cooing vocals and introspective work of Emmylou Harris. (Listen to the song below.)
“Sometimes it feels like everywhere I turn, friends and strangers — and myself — are talking about the anxieties of life, of achieving all they want to achieve, all they want to be, and constantly comparing to what others are doing or what they have,” says Michaela Anne. “With constant access to everyone else’s ‘life’ at any given moment through social media, there’s a lot of added pressure or ways to question what we are doing with our own time and who we are. That’s what this song is about: ‘I’ve got everything but living to do’; and hopefully finding peace through proclaiming it and airing those anxieties out.”
Produced by Dan Knobler, Bright Lights and the Fame features a collaboration with Rodney Crowell (the two-stepping “Luisa”), as well as songs written with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Brainard (Brandy Clark’s 12 Stories).
Michaela Anne will launch a tour of the northeast next month, with stops in Washington, D.C., and New York City.
