Hear Kenny Chesney’s Spiritual ‘Revival’
With his latest single, “American Kids,” Kenny Chesney already has a Number One hit from his yet-to-be-released album, The Big Revival. Now, in anticipation of the LP hitting stores September 23rd, the country superstar has released the audio for the disc’s title track.
“The Big Revival” kicks off the album and also sets the tone for the entire project, Chesney explains. While the lyrics call to mind old-time religion, with references to snake-handling and speaking in tongues, the singer says rather than the things he doesn’t understand or agree with when it comes to religion, he is more interested in the ways music can change people spiritually, something he has witnessed firsthand.
Focused in the past year on crafting the new album rather than mounting what would surely have been another sold-out stadium tour, Chesney also made an effort to walk the fine line between delivering a record that would defy expectations but wasn’t just a rehash of his previous (albeit multi-platinum) successes.
“This album ain’t about a party,” Chesney tells Radio.com. “It’s about living with passion, about confidence, about walking into a room full of people and smiling and meaning it. Having the courage to hear this voice in your head and follow it, maybe for the first time in your life. It’s about taking your life and living it to the fullest.”
“The Big Revival” is the third track from the album to be made available ahead of the September 23rd release date.
