Hear Kacey Musgraves and Miguel’s Sensual ‘Waves’ Remix
R&B singer Miguel’s song “Waves” made use of a none-too-subtle metaphor about the ocean to describe sexual ecstasy and channeled the feeling into a deliriously uplifting jam. Now the tune — originally released on Miguel’s 2015 album Wildheart — has been reinterpreted by a diverse array of collaborators on the Rogue Waves EP, which was released today.
In addition to a Tame Impala remix, Rogue Waves features a “Waves” makeover by Kacey Musgraves. The “Dimestore Cowgirl” singer transforms “Waves” into something nocturnal and mysterious, all dimmed lights and smoke, as tinkling percussion, rumbling guitar and wisps of steel faintly echo into the distance. Miguel sings in a lower register than his original, while he and Musgraves answer one another’s lustful pleas throughout. And though Musgraves’ own music rarely concerns itself with carnal urges, she sounds pretty convincing spouting suggestive lines like “Body surf, don’t sleep / Until I hit the peak.”
Musgraves is still bringing the sparkle with her Country & Western Rhinestone Revue, which has dates scheduled through mid-April. On April 22nd, she’ll help welcome George Strait back to the stage when she opens two shows at the new Las Vegas Arena.
