Jason Eady tips his hat to longtime fans with “Waiting to Shine,” a song that’s made regular appearances during the songwriter’s solo sets for the past decade. Dressed up with dobro, drums and co-ed harmonies, the tune’s revamped studio version makes its debut this week, paving the way for Eady’s sixth album next month.

Based in Ft. Worth, Eady has always gravitated toward a country sound that favors old-school Texas twang over modern Nashville polish. He memorably skewered the genre’s mainstream heroes in 2012’s “AM Country Heaven,” calling out Music Row bros and belles for being “too damn clean and polished like stones.” “Waiting to Shine” isn’t quite as explicit, but it does find Eady and producer Kevin Welch whipping up a sound that’s more reminiscent of a back-porch picking party that a downtown honky-tonk show.

Arriving on April 20th, the new album Jason Eady offers up 10 songs of crooner country and roadhouse roots-rock. Listen to “Waiting to Shine” below.
