Seven albums into being a band, the Infamous Stringdusters are finding new ways to keep their music fresh. The bluegrass quintet released its seventh LP, Laws of Gravity, back in January and immediately began fiddling with the finished project. The band started by recording a mash-up of every song on the album, and then went one step further by cutting a live version of the album: Laws of Gravity: Live.

The Stringdusters release the live record digitally on Friday, June 23rd, and preview one of the tracks, “A Hard Life Makes a Good Song,” today on Rolling Stone Country. Recorded during a March 24th show in Boise, Idaho (all of the songs are from the group’s January through April tour), “A Hard Life Makes a Good Song” finds the Virginia natives in their element, strumming furiously and highlighting their multi-faceted harmonies. (Listen to the song below.)

“My favorite part of doing this song live is when people are nodding their heads to the beat and I spot the people in the crowd that can identify with words that I am singing,” says fiddler Jeremy Garrett, who takes the lead vocal. “When the chorus comes in, everyone is chiming in. That’s so much fun.”

The band had plenty of material to work with in assembling Laws of Gravity: Live, given that they’ve already played more than 60 shows this year. Other recordings were pulled from shows in Maine, Oregon and Washington, D.C. The record mirrors the track list of Laws of Gravity, which was released by Compass Records and debuted at Number One on the bluegrass chart. Band members Andy Falco and Chris Pandolfi produced the live LP.

The Infamous Stringdusters have also announced a pair of Halloween concerts at the Ogden Theater in Denver. Tickets to the October 27th and 28th gigs go on sale June 23rd.
