Hear Gretchen Wilson’s Bittersweet New Song ‘Summertime Town’

“Redneck Woman” singer shows softer side of her voice on Tom Petty-tinged tune from latest album ‘Ready to Get Rowdy’

It’s been four years since Gretchen Wilson released an album of original material, but the “Redneck Woman” is back with a new studio effort, Ready to Get Rowdy. Coinciding with the album’s release, she’s also shared a new single, the wistful “Summertime Town.”

“Summertime Town” is the second single off Ready to Get Rowdy, following the appropriately titled rocker “Rowdy.” The new track likens a relationship with an unreliable flame to a town that “closes up when the sun goes down” and gives Wilson a chance to show off the softer side of her powerful vocal instrument.

Ready to Get Rowdy came out on June 16th and follows Wilson’s 2013 album Right on Time. In between those two releases, Wilson had two other projects: Under the Covers – a collection of rock covers – and holiday album Christmas in My Heart. The new 12-song collection also features a duet with Kid Rock, “Bad Feeling.”

Wilson recently landed in Rolling Stone Country‘s 20 Best Songs to Play While Getting High List with her song “Grandma.” She’s currently on tour through early fall.
