After scoring three consecutive Number One songs, Dustin Lynch has returned with “Seein’ Red.” The groove-heavy, humid tune is the first release from the Tullahoma, Tennessee native’s forthcoming third album.

The song, which premiered today via iHeartMedia, begins with choppy electric guitar riffs and ghostly, dub-influenced textures. Lynch has one thing on his mind: “I’m talkin’ backseat heartbeat pounding in my chest, I’m seein’ red,” he sings to a woman, using a monosyllabic vocal cadence that sounds like Taylor Swift’s delivery in “Style.” There’s an atmosphere of swirling delirium that fits with the vision-clouding subject matter, and Lynch’s vocal performance is one of his most soulful and assured to date. Stream it below.

Written by Tully Kennedy, Kurt Allison, Steve Bogard and Jason Sever, “Seein’ Red” is a continuation of what Lynch has done with recent singles like “Mind Reader” and “Hell of a Night,” mirroring country radio’s trend toward a more pronounced R&B influence. For his part, Lynch sees it as a sign that he’s found a sound that works for him.

“When one of my records goes on the radio, it’s recognizable,” he told Rolling Stone Country recently. “I think that’s what all new artists strive for, that identity.”

This weekend, Lynch will take his sound to Canada with a two nights engagement at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto, Ontario, as part of Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights tour.
