Courtney Cole’s new song is all about boozing. . . and getting someone else to pay for it. Naturally, it’s called “Free.99.”
“It’s sort of my version of [Beyoncé’s] ‘Single Ladies.’ It’s singleness at its finest; you just got to embrace it,” she tells Rolling Stone Country. “It’s about going out and looking cute and getting drinks for free. Me and my best friend, Meredith, used to get dressed up on Friday night and our goal was to see how many free drinks we could get.”
Cole can’t help but laugh at the antics that inspired the song — as she and Meredith weren’t always successful. “Sometimes you go in and it doesn’t matter how cute you look, you’re just not gonna get a guy to come to the bar. You can’t let that get you down. We would just go in and see what our options were and start a tally. We would accept it from anyone. It’s just a matter of how many you could get.”
Cole performed her saucy new tune at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas earlier this fall. There’s no word on whether she forgot her wallet while Sin City bar-hopping afterward.
