Glen Campbell, Loretta Lynn Plot New Albums: Ram Report

Country legends, who both celebrate birthdays in April, surprise with upcoming releases

Two country music icons celebrated birthdays this month with news of brand-new albums. Both Glen Campbell and Loretta Lynn will release records this summer.

For Campbell, who celebrates his 81st birthday on April 22nd, the new album is bittersweet, with the poignantly titled Adiós marking his final project as he nears the end of his struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Campbell, a Country Music Hall of Fame member known as much for his guitar playing as for his pristine voice, recorded Adiós after his 2012 Goodbye Tour, about a year after his Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The record was announced with Campbell’s cover of Harry Nilsson’s “Everybody’s Talkin’.”

Lynn, meanwhile, marked her 85th birthday on April 14th onstage in Nashville, performing two sold-out shows at the Ryman Auditorium. The “Coal Miner’s Daughter” also announced the new album Wouldn’t It Be Great, the follow-up to her well-received Full Circle. The album reunites her with producer John Carter Cash and includes both new songs and reworked versions of signature hits like “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).”

Campbell’s Adiós is due June 9th, and Lynn’s Wouldn’t It Be Great will be released August 18th.
