Florida Georgia Line have released a snippet of a new song in response to the shooting deaths of five police officers by a gunman in Dallas last night, July 7th. FGL member Tyler Hubbard posted a photo of what appears to show two police officers — one black, one white — with the words “his life matters” written on their palms. The new song “Music Is Healing” plays over the image, an almost minute-long taste of the band’s updated sound that is expected on the new album Dig Your Roots, due August 26th. The LP features collaborations with Tim McGraw, the Backstreet Boys and Ziggy Marley. (Listen to the song below.)

“Tears on a six string / another angel gone leaving you all alone / dealing with your demons,” sings Hubbard in the song’s first verse, before the pre-chorus kicks in: “If I could sing the perfect word and change the world / unhurt the hurt that we’re all feeling / stop the bleeding.” “Music Is Healing” was written by Hubbard, FGL bandmate Brian Kelley, Jordan Schmidt and Craig Wiseman.

Hubbard, who founded the progressive country band with Kelley in 2010, released the song with the caption: “This song has never rang more true. My heart is broken. ‘Love is the answer and music is healing.’ Praying for this country.”

Florida Georgia Line aren’t the only country artists to share their horror over the events in Dallas. Maren Morris posted an unreleased demo titled “Dear Hate” online, while singers from the Oak Ridge Boys to Brad Paisley tweeted statements of shock and consolation. Wrote Paisley: “I don’t know where we go as a society from here.”
