Four months after Big Machine Label Group announced it was reviving storied Tennessee label Dot Records, the new imprint has announced the first act to sign with the label. Maddie & Tae, an 18-year-old female singer/songwriter duo, will be Dot Records’ inaugural artist, Rolling Stone Country has learned exclusively.

Made up of Maddie Marlow, from Texas, and Oklahoman Tae Dye, the young twosome cites the Dixie Chicks, Lee Ann Womack and Shania Twain as influences. Currently readying their debut single, the feisty “Girl in a Country Song,” for release to radio this summer, the duo shared their excitement with Rolling Stone Country.

“It feels completely surreal to have our wildest dreams become reality,” they said. “We are in awe of being the first artist to help launch the legendary Dot Records.”

Founded in 1950, Dot Records, which eventually relocated to California, became home to Pat Boone, Eddie Fisher, Roy Clark and others before shuttering in 1978. Big Machine Label Group resurrected the imprint in March of this year, appointing former Warner Music Nashville promotion ace Chris Stacey as general manager.
