Eric Church isn’t a yuk-yuk kind of guy, but in the humorous new video for his single “Cold One,” the normally stone-faced singer allows himself a little mugging for the camera. Directed by Church’s frequent collaborator Peter Zavadil (“Give Me Back My Hometown”), the clip casts Church as a hapless beer delivery man, while his band members play the workers and patrons of a grungy dive bar.
Despite the lyrics outdoor setting — we thought for sure there’d be a shot of that “green water” — the video takes place primarily indoors, with Church and his group jamming in the bar’s walk-in cooler and, later, playing inside a cavernous beer warehouse. It’s in the latter where Church truly lets his guard down, careening down the aisles on a motorized cart and shooting deadpan looks that convey he’s in on the joke.
“Cold One” marks the third single from Church’s latest album, The Outsiders, after the title track and the Number One “Give Me Back My Hometown.” Church kicks off the Outsiders Worlds Tour on September 11th in Bossier City, Louisiana.
