Weeks after howling his way through one of Rolling Stone Country‘s favorite sets at CMA Music Fest 2014, country-soul songwriter Drake White has signed with Dot Records, the historic Tennessee-based label that launched in 1950, closed in 1977 and reopened this spring as an imprint of Big Machine Label Group.

10 New Artists You Need to Know: Summer 2014

It’s been a busy year for White, an Alabama native who kicked off 2014 as the opening act for alt-rocker-turned-country-crooner Aaron Lewis and recently added two new bullet points — husband and homeowner — to a resume that already includes shows with Luke Bryan, summer tours with Lynyrd Skynrd and a Top 40 country hit with 2013’s “Simple Life.” He joins Maddie & Tae as Dot Records’ second signee.

Originally signed with MCA Nashville, White was due to release his major-label debut earlier this year. There hasn’t been any word on that new album yet, although a tweet from last Friday afternoon — “Stoked to start making music with Dot Records! Very happy!” — bodes well for fans who want more of White’s gospel-tinged twang.
