Derek Hough, whose dance moves have led him to a record-setting five wins on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, is making the move to an acting role on the network’s musical drama Nashville.
According to People, Hough will appear in multiple episodes of the show’s upcoming third season, playing Noah West, a 20-something movie star who crosses paths with the Nashville characters after he’s cast as the lead in a biopic of a famed country singer. In a statement, ABC says the role requires Hough to play a “beguiling and disarming” guy.
The brother of DWTS veteran Julianne Hough, whose self-titled country album was released in 2008, Derek will return to the dance floor for Season 19 of the hit competition series, which premieres September 15th. His previous acting roles include the dance flick Make Your Move and an uncredited bit part as a Hogwarts student in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He also starred in a stage production of Footloose: The Musical.
There’s no word yet on whether Hough will sing on Nashville, but it wouldn’t be a stretch. He and fellow DWTS pro Mark Ballas trade lead vocals in the Ballas Hough Band, which released its debut album in 2009 via Hollywood Records.
Nashville returns September 24th on ABC. The episodes featuring Hough are slated to begin airing in October.
