For all the noise and trash-talking that happens there on the regular, the hive mind of Twitter occasionally comes up with something useful. For duo Dan + Shay, it was actually the title of their forthcoming album: Obsessed.
The pair of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, who previously scored a Number One hit with “Nothin’ Like You” from their debut album Where It All Began, sensed a pattern on social media when their current single “From the Ground Up” was released.
“We started noticing that hashtag ‘#obsessed’ being tagged in all our fans’ posts when we first revealed our single, ‘From The Ground Up,’” said Mooney in a release. “So when it came time to pick a title for this album, it seemed pretty appropriate that we’re even more obsessed with making music for our fans than they are to hear it.” Obsessed will be available June 3rd.
“From the Ground Up,” which the duo wrote with Chris DeStefano, is currently at Number 27 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart. Like previous Dan + Shay singles “19 You + Me” and “Nothin’ Like You,” it finds inspiration in love. Pledging to patiently build a life with someone the way his grandparents did before, Mooney shows off his malleable upper range as the tune swells to grand proportions along with the sentiment.
Currently, Dan + Shay are finalists for Group/Duo of the Year and Breakthrough Group/Duo of the Year at the American Country Countdown Awards, which take place on May 1st. On their album release day, Dan + Shay will begin their supporting run on Darius Rucker’s Good for a Good Time Tour in Tampa, Florida.
