Cyndi Lauper is taking her country act on the road. The music legend’s Detour tour kicks off May 9th in Nashville, hitting 27 cities in the U.S. and Europe before wrapping July 11th in Paris.

Lauper’s first country album, also titled Detour, has a track list of Nashville-born songs spanning the Forties, Fifties and Sixties. Covers include Patsy Cline’s “Walkin After Midnight,” Harlan Howard’s “Heartaches By the Number” and the Loretta Lynn/Conway Twitty duet, “You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly,” which she sings with Vince Gill.

Growing up in New York, the singer recalls falling in love with country music while listening to the radio at an aunt’s house. “It was Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn and these great female voices,” Lauper tells Rolling Stone Country. “I grew up with a lot of women around me, so the strength of their voices. . . it was at that age when you still had your pony stick, it was still a magical time.”

Detour hits stores May 6th.
