Recently Chris Young enjoyed a personal milestone with his single “I’m Comin’ Over,” which sat at Number One on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart for three consecutive weeks and tied 2009’s “The Man I Want to Be” as his longest running chart-topper to date.
In celebration, he visited Ellen on December 7th to tape a performance of “I’m Comin’ Over” — the title track from Young’s fifth album — that aired the next day. It’s a typically strong rendition, with Young tastefully employing a few skillful runs and a whisper-to-a-howl vocal technique that underscores the song’s urgency.
Amazingly, Young’s appearance on Ellen came just days after a strep throat diagnosis forced him to reschedule three headlining I’m Comin’ Over Tour dates in Green Bay, Wisconsin and the Minnesota cities of Rochester and Duluth. Those shows (which include openers Clare Dunn and Eric Paslay) have been moved to January 7th, 8th and 9th, respectively. Young will still play guitar-pull shows tonight in Seattle for KKWF and tomorrow in Portland, Oregon, for KWJJ before resuming his tour in 2016.
