Chris Stapleton Ships ‘Broken Halos’ to Radio, Opens for Tom Petty
Chris Stapleton will release “Broken Halos” as his next single. The song is the leadoff track of From A Room: Volume 1, Stapleton’s latest album, released in May. In June, it became the first country album of the year to be certified Gold.
Written by Stapleton with his former bandmate in the SteelDrivers, Mike Henderson, “Broken Halos” features a more gritty delivery from Stapleton, offset by the pristine harmonies of his wife and singing partner Morgane Stapleton. The pair gave the song its wide debut during Dolly Parton’s Tennessee wildfires telethon last December.
“It was really important to me … to cut songs from some of the guys who helped me learn how to write songs, and Mike is one of those guys,” Stapleton told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “For [“Broken Halos”], like most every song I’ve written with him, I would show up at his house at 8 o’clock in the evening. I’d have a standing appointment with him for a while on Tuesdays. Morgane would drive me to that appointment and pick me up.”
Stapleton recently resumed his All-American Road Show Tour after being sidelined by an injury to his right index finger. Earlier this week, he opened for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers on their 40th Anniversary Tour, meeting the classic-rock icon backstage at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. Stapleton’s next headlining show is set for July 14th in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
