Chris Stapleton Postpones Show Due to Vocal Problems

“I’ve lost my voice and am headed to the doctor,” writes the singer, who was slated to play Santa Barbara tonight

Rootsy country phenom Chris Stapleton has been forced to postpone a concert tonight (April 26) in Santa Barbara, California, citing vocal issues, which doesn’t bode well for anxious fans.

Posting on Instagram Monday night, Stapleton says he’s lost his voice and isn’t sure of the prognosis yet, but plans to seek treatment immediately. “Dear fans & friends,” he writes, “I am torn up about having to postpone tomorrow night’s show in Santa Barbara. I’ve lost my voice and am headed to the doctor first thing in the morning. Please know we are working hard to find the earliest possible date we can to get back to you guys. I truly regret having to do this & any inconvenience it may cause. Thanks for your support & understanding. You guys mean the world to me. Sincerely, Chris.”

The disappointing news arrives in the middle of Stapleton’s most successful year to date — a handful of months that have included critical and chart domination, heavy promotional touring and daily performances — much of which stems from the Kentucky native’s heralded voice itself. Most professional singers do encounter vocal issues at some point in their career, and often the problem can be fixed with rest or non-invasive surgery, as was the case last winter with Tyler Farr.

Unfortunately for Stapleton, there’s not much down-time built into his upcoming schedule. His next slotted shows include April 27th at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, April 30th at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, and May 1st at Humphrey’s in San Diego. He’s also set to play both CMA Music Festival and Bonnaroo on the same weekend in June.
